Fethiye Attractions

Fethiye is a city stuck in the pleasant warp of time. Tourists can have all kinds of modern day fun if they so want, at the same time, they can also soak the rich culture and heritage of the place to the fullest. Great many attractions warm tourists to Fethiye.

Historically the place is very important. It has seen the wax and wane of the Greek, Roman, Hellenistic, and Ottoman Empire and it holds the amalgamation of their ideas in it. There are many historical places which deserve attention.

Xanthos - This was the place where a large number of people committed suicide praying for peace and freedom from Persian invaders in the year 546 BC. There are the Nereid monuments and their wrecks still stand against time.

Pinara - Many elementary tombs and Aphrodite temples are scattered over the entire place. They have a great historical importance and talk about the most ancient Lycian civilization.

Cadianda - They present the Cyclops walls, a testimony to the architecture of the times. The architects of the Hellenistic period owed allegiance to Apollon.

Blue Lagoon (Oludeniz) - The calm blue crystal water body proliferates swimmers to the hilt. Then there are also natural parks and the Belcekiz beach which are counted among the popular Fethiye attractions.

Butterfly Valley (Kelebek Vadisi) - It is one of the most picturesque bays in the city. With the advent of springtime, it is possible to view as many as 40 different varieties of butterflies. It is placed in the depth of sharp valleys.

Gemiler Bay and Islands - This is again a great tourist attraction with spread-out blue bays. It has a bough of olive and pine trees. One can clearly see the ruins of Ottoman Empire.

Many sports such as paragliding, wakeboarding, catamarans, water surfing and so on are possible at the blue waters in Fethiye.

Fethiye also celebrates a variety of festivals. The Aspendos Roman theater holds ballet festival in the June-July region. If you are in Dalaman, this is a must-see. Cities of Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya and many others also hold international festivals dedicated to the spirit of art and culture.
